Michigan
A few pictures from a week spent in Michigan.
Though I haven't lived in the state for nearly 9 years, I always treasure the moments I have when I'm back. The air always smells 'green', people are always so, so caring (even to perfect strangers) and the countryside is really quite beautiful.
I'd like to think someday I'll end up back there :)
Succulent Buds
I love shiny wet watercolors.
I’ve been playing with some nature-inspired abstracts on watercolor-gessoed canvases and I have to say, I love them just as much wet as I do dry.
Recent work - dried and sealed.
Miami Sunset
Occasionally I get questions about my color choices, wondering how I pick what I pick. I usually explain that I try to take my palettes from nature, finding my inspiration in the sea, clouds and flowers.
And these sunsets. These. Are. Everything.
Studio Friend
It was incredibly stormy today, but the breeze was perfect - so I opened all the windows in the studio as I worked. I can't get over the fresh smells carried in by the wind, that sense that summer is almost upon us. I'm feeling my palette start to brighten accordingly, it is after all the season of new things, growing things and new brightness.
And the storm brought in a little friend.
After roughly a half hour I was able to get the little guy back outside and on his way. And I went back to work.
Southwestern Triangle - Commission WIP
This week was pretty much devoted entirely to a new commission I received.
Southwestern-inspired triangle pattern, created to fit a 48 x 25 frame.
My wonderful client lives in Arizona and was looking for something that might mirror the colors found in that incredible area of the county.
I lived in Arizona for a time, and attended Arizona State University at Tempe. It's safe to say that I have an *exceptionally* soft spot for anything desert related and was positively thrilled to work on this project.
This project was truly a joy -- made even better by my clients excitement in receiving the final painting.
To request a quote on a commission contact me and I’ll get back to you with more information.
